Voila! Indonesia will soon host the remarkable MotoGP race in the island of Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara. Bringing back the nostalgia for MotoGP stints held at the Sentul International Circuit in Bogor back in 1996-97.
Surprisingly, the event will be held in the Mandalike Special Economic Zone located on the island of Lombok, the region that was hit by devastating earthquakes last year. The world-class MotoGP event will revive the island of mesmerising beaches and natural wonders from the ashes.
While turning the island into a great tourist attraction and welcoming thousands of people from around the world, the authorities have to establish ‘the venue, infrastructure and facilities’, mentions ITDC president Abdulbar M. Mansoer.

How Glamping Would Resolve Accommodation Issues?
Currently, Lombok cannot accommodate tourists to stay, when the estimated need for 60,000 hotel rooms is to be met. Even if there are investors willing to build hotels and luxurious resorts, there isn’t enough time for construction to meet the expected need until the Moto-GP racing event is held in 2021.
In such times, communities can help establish prefab glamping areas in the villages of Lombok Island. In fact, glamping experiences are highly revered by tourists compared to typical motel living.
Also, building prefab glamping areas take less time, effort, and construction material. Built with eco-friendly natural resources, glamping spots can give a refreshing break to the tourists on hilltops, beach-sides, and village areas.

Glamping offers a perfect escape to people from the hustle and bustle of life. In simpler words, glamping is about having a chance to choose a unique residing area, selecting an astounding backdrop, and preparing for once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Glamping would also offer a pleasant, temporary residing solution for MotoGP racing fans and tourists. For that, the entire community can indulge in building creative glamping spots throughout Lombok villages between hilly areas to beachside. It’s an opportunity to explore the natural beauty of Lombok in rural, unpolluted areas.
Glamping is a great chance for villagers to work together on the hospitality industry. In unison, making Lombok turn into a tourist’s favourite spot.

From the economic perspective, it’s a great occasion to help villagers generate revenue by positively manipulating the natural beauty around them. This will give a great economic boost to the government too.
Participate in Constructing Glamping Villas:
People can become a part of our open-idea competition ‘Glamping Villa 2020 Challenge’ to creatively construct natural retreats such as tents, yurts, tree houses, and restored trailers for tourists. From selecting the right spot to brainstorming the perfect residing space, it’s a great opportunity for architects and students globally as well as local villagers to revisit the idea of bringing together humans and nature. What else one could ask for?

Architects can build small-scale glamping areas in different villages of Lombok. Groups of 10 to 15 glamping villas with public spaces around would retain the ingenuity of the architect’s imagination.
However, glamping spots will be chosen away from the main motor racing arena in Mandalike to reduce density of people near the racetrack. About 1-2 hours distance from the main track would be great to allow people explore the natural charisma of Lombok.
